If there is one year, I feel as pinned to my own flesh and sharp pin that hurts, for sure is the 1492. This 1492 was the protagonist and faithful witness of key episodes and dramatic for the future of Spain, Europe and the Jewish people. Occurred in three far-reaching historical events that would profoundly change the face of much of mankind.


After 800 years of glory, turns off the light of Islamic presence in the Iberian peninsula finally capitulated to the Christian world, marking a turning point between the dark middle ages and retrograde the so-called "modern" world.

The mysterious explorer Christopher Columbus gets the funding of the Kings of Spain for their great adventure of crossing the seas in search of distant Indies or the "new" America. Nothing more and nothing less than a "pig" in search of new land for his people can live in peace and freedom.
Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella signed the fateful decree expelling the Jews from Spain, sparking two routes tragic to Judaism: The painful diaspora of the Sephardic Jews and the wide world the martyrdom of Anousim - Jews forced to convert to Christianity and martyred by the Inquisition after the Torquemadas because of the terrible crime of Judaizing secret.
As I was saying the 1492 was a pivotal year in my personal collection and the history of mankind since the historical changes, there were two decisive:
The first was the "discovery" of a new world hitherto unknown to the European cultural perspective or the appearance of the virgin America that blew all hitherto existing order in old Europe.
The second, the tragic expulsion of Jews from Spain, was the beginning of the disappearance Sephardic Jewish quarters of those bright that enriched the peninsula for many centuries and the beginning of an era of darkness and retrograde decadent creation of a new Hispanic culture marked by the gray monotony of uniformity.
Between these two events broke a key figure, an existential hero from the mythical journey new world and the expulsion of Jews from Spain. That character was so enigmatic that Christopher Columbus in front of the fleet left for the adventure just two days after the date required for Jews to finally say goodbye to their homes.
Columbus was not an ordinary Christian, knew Hebrew and the Old Testament as amazing. Had ancestors, relatives and fellow Jews. Most sailors were new Christians Judaisers in utmost secrecy. Almost all of its sponsors and collaborators of his great undertaking were suspected of being false converts.
Christopher Columbus wrote often with his son Fernando, were letters where there were many dates in Hebrew letters in the initial headings Baruch Hashem B "H (with the help of God") , in the goodbyes Jewish blessings and even wise advice on how your child should do to preserve "our ways."
For Colon was no mystery to know where he went with his expedition, he knew there were other lands to his brothers expelled and humiliated orphans could find peace and fruitful life.
Other places probably lived the descendants of the lost ten tribes who would be waiting with open arms to meet again as the longed times of the glory of ancient Israel.
Many centuries later spoke to redeem his memory after a long period of dormancy, where he remained in the dark and mysterious corner of history. But even today there are too many forces rooted in the culture and idiosyncrasies of the West to prevent it.
The great secret that they can or should reveal: Colon was simply a Jew and their dreams and motivations was to free his people suffering from the terrible clutches of medieval intolerance of Christian Europe I was inexorably caught.
